Thank you for your interest in the National Council of Teachers of English at Colorado State University.

As you a member, you:
- are eligible to attend the mock interviews, which NCTE@CSU hosts every year.  Principals and administrators from different schools throughout Colorado will interview you and help you prepare for job interviews in your future. As of 2010, mock interviews are a members only event.    
- are able to add NCTE@CSU to your resume.
- are able to run for office.
- are welcome to attend all meetings hosted by the organization.
- forge relationships with other CSU leaders and faculty.

Membership fees are $5 per semester, or $8 for a year. 

Membership forms may be submitted to NCTE@CSU's treasurer or president during a NCTE@CSU meeting.  If you would like to find an alternative way of submitting the form, please contact Natalie Sotelo, treasurer, at [email protected].

Officer Roles:

President Role Description: 
  • Required to attend Officer Training through SLiCE
  • Presides over meetings of the organization
  • Facilitates executive board meetings
  • Appoints committee chair people
  • Serve as a liaison to CLAS and member of the CLAS executive board
  • Meets regularly with the VP and faculty adviser
  • Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees
  • Plans agenda for officer meetings with VP and/or secretary
  • Mediate conflict within the organization
  • Assist all executive officers
  • Coordinates executive board officer transitions
  • Serves as a spokesperson for the organization 
  • Helps set and facilitate organization "big picture" goals
  • Assists with planning and organizing meetings
  • Must be a member of the National Chapter

Vice President Role Description:
  • Facilitates executive board team development strategies 
  • Meets regularly with the President and faculty adviser
  • Serve as a liaison to CLAS and member of the CLAS executive board
  • Helps set and facilitate organization "big picture" goals in action 
  • Plans agenda for officer meetings with President and/or secretary
  • Facilitates executive board meetings in Presidents absence
  • Serves as an ex-officio member of all committees
  • Performs the duties of the president in his/her absence 
  • Directs Constitutional updating and revisions
  • Facilitates elections of officers
  • Recruits new members
  • Assists with planning and organizing meetings
  • Must be a member of the National Chapter

Secretary Role Description:
  • Required to attend Officer Training put on by Student Organizations (SLICE)
  • Must be a member of the National Chapter
  • Takes notes during officer and member meetings
  • Submits a typed copy of minutes from officer meeting to each officer and posts to Google docs within 72 hours of the meeting
  • Posts a description of each member meeting to the NCTE@CSU Ning/blog/website
  • Proof reads the web sites updated by marketing coordinator and makes any necessary corrections
  • Submits relevant nominations for the annual SLICE Awards (Spring Semester)
  • Assists with planning and organizing meetings
  • Must be a member of the National Chapter
Treasurer Role Description:
  • Report accurate accounts of organization funds at each officer meeting
  • Announce semester and yearly due fees at the beginning of each meeting
  • Record attendance at each meeting and collect membership dues
  • Maintain member dues and email speadsheet in googledoc
  • Assist Marketing Coordinator with new member packets
  • Issue member refunds and receipts for dues and products
  • Assist with procuring funds for food, prizes, entertainment, etc, at meetings
  • Attend Officer Training Meetings conducted by student organizations, such as SLICE
  • Assist Marketing Coordinator with recruitment of new members
  • Assist in planning organization’s yearly budget with Officer Team
  • Maintain membership with National Chapter of NCTE
  • Email students whose memberships will expire
  • Submit welcome letters to new members
  • Assist with planning and organizing meetings
  • Must be a member of the National Chapter

Marketing Coordinator Role Description:
  • Attends Officer Training put on by Student Organizations (SLICE)
  • Advertises organization
  • Publicizes meetings/events      
  • Maintains the following websites with information regarding upcoming events and meetings: 
           Today@CSU event calendar, The Rocky Mountain Collegian event calendar, RamLink, Ning, and
           Weebly. 
  • Creates informational fliers for upcoming events and meetings
  • Reserves and organizes decoration of display cases
  • Assists with planning and organizing meetings
  • Must be a member of the National Chapter

*Often all officers help accomplish each role.  The descriptions below are general and are modeled after what has been common practice.  Officers will have the chance to decide what distribution of responsibilities makes the most sense.
